Banks Journal: Style, function & sustainability

Overview

The Banks Journal mission is simple - to merge style & functionality with a sustainable approach to design & development.

As the Art Director at Banks Journal and working closely with our small team based in Australia, USA & Japan, we set out to challenge the status quo of the surf industry. Fuelled by a desire to create wearable, functional and environmentally friendly apparel for the surf and lifestyle consumer.

Marketing, Content & Art Direction

Banks Journal’s innovative collective of surfers, designers, artists and photographers are all bound by their curiosity and share the desire to make the world a better place.

I was responsible for the concepts, designs and production of the companies marketing & content material. From directing and producing photoshoots in far flung locations to building out direct to consumer marketing, social content and email communications.

Sales Catalogues

With a hefty base of wholesale business and growing ranges each season, it was paramount to showcase and house the rages in our printed and digital sales catalogues.

We produced four main ranges per year with special curated ranges as injections through the season. I was responsible for the design, layout, direction and production of flat lays and lookbook photoshoots, pulling these together ready for distribution around the globe to our sales agents.

E-Commerce

Working as the creative lead at Banks Journal, we set out to challenge the status quo of the surf industry. Fuelled by a desire to create wearable, functional and environmentally friendly apparel for the surf and lifestyle consumer.

DTLA Flagship Store

Working collaboratively with architecture and research practice West of West, Banks Journal set out to create a memorable environment for their flagship retail space. What resulted was a clean and minimal space for the brand's first retail showroom located in Downtown Los Angeles.

I was involved to create cohesion through brand experience to align visual ID touch points into the retail space from colour palette, signage, point of sale and window displays.
